Manus Island and Nauru Senate Inquiry

Evidence presented to the Senate inquiry into the conditions on Manus Island and Nauru should prompt the immediate closure of both offshore detention centres, Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim says.

"Australia’s centres on Manus Island and Nauru are inhumane, non-compliant with international obligations, and should immediately be closed and all detainees brought to Australia," Senator McKim said.

Dutton caught in outrageous Manus Island lie

Peter Dutton has been caught out lying about people seeking asylum on Manus Island and must resign or be sacked, Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim says.

"Statements from Papua New Guinea police have exposed Mr Dutton’s lies. This has disturbing echoes of the children overboard scandal," Senator McKim said.

"This was an outrageous lie designed to pour scorn on the people he has left stranded on Manus Island."

Dutton must guarantee health services for Manus Island

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton must immediately clarify the status of medical care available to people seeking asylum on Manus Island.

"We are hearing that there are no doctors working today in the detention centres on PNG due to International Health and Medical Service failing to properly register its medical practitioners with the Papua New Guinean government," Greens Immigration spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said.

"If this is true, Mr Dutton must take urgent action to ensure proper medical care is available to people who remain Australia's responsibility."

Australian Border Force's use of coercive powers

The government's improper management of Australian Border Force's statutory powers is squarely the fault of Immigration Minister Peter Dutton.

Media Release: Greens to stand against Dutton's power grab

The Greens will stand against the government's discriminatory anti-immigration agenda, and specifically against Minister Dutton's power grab through the Visa Revalidation Bill.

Audit Office confirms Dutton's department has gone rogue

The release of another scathing audit of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection confirms Peter Dutton has lost control of his portfolio and its budget, Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim says.

"What a bloody shambles," Senator McKim said.

"This audit confirms that $1.1 billion of taxpayers' money was spent without proper authority, while there is no record of who authorised the spending of a further $1.1 billion."

"This is yet another indictment on Minister Dutton's capacity to manage the taxpayer dollars he has been entrusted with."

Dutton's push for White Australia Policy Mark II

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton's proposed visa changes are deeply xenophobic and a continuation of his attack on multiculturalism in Australia.

"This nothing less than a blueprint to return our country to the divisive days of the White Australia Policy," Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim said.

"As the Department of Social Services noted, this proposal will 'undermine Australia's social cohesion' and create a two-tiered society."

"This will increase the risk factors that cause violent extremism."

Government stalls on resolution to Manus Island impasse

The Government continues to flail about with no solution for the stranded people in Australia's care on Manus Island, Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim says.

"Two months ago, the Government pledged that the illegal Manus Island detention centre would close, and the men there would be resettled," Senator McKim said.

"It now appears that the Government is trying to weasel out of this commitment and the Papua New Guinea Supreme Court decision."
