Greens grand slam plan to honour Margaret Court

The Greens have slammed reports that one of Australia’s most high profile racists and bigots will receive an Australia Day honour, calling it a “slap in the face” to all the people harmed by her toxic advocacy.

Media Release: Greens to fund feasibility study into Tasmanian women’s football team

The Australian Greens have committed to funding a comprehensive study into the feasibility of a Tasmanian women’s football side competing in the national competition.

”We want to see a Tasmanian team that plays here, trains here and with a substantial component of local players,” Greens Senator for Tasmania Nick McKim said.

“A Tasmanian team would encourage female participation in sport, and give our athletes a platform to compete at the highest level without having to leave the state.”

Tasmania can lead on women’s football

The Australian and Tasmanian Greens have identified an opportunity for Tasmania to have a team in the AFL's national women's league, and have written to Premier Will Hodgman and Opposition Leader Bryan Green offering to work with them to progress a proposal.

"The Greens believe a society that values women as equal to men must provide equal opportunities in every workplace, from Parliament to the playing field," said Australian Greens Leader and former VFA footballer Senator Richard Di Natale.
